The burning times
The European witch trials occurred between the 15th–18th Centuries. This period of history, known as the burning times saw thousands of innocent people, predominantly women, accused of witchcraft & heresy; and as a consequence, burned, hung or drowned.
The images in this series are taken at locations in the UK and Spain where these trials occurred. They have been shot and printed in such a way as to capture the ambiguous dark history of the European witch trials. They show beautiful landscapes that are blurred or veiled, hiding a dark and ugly past.
This collection of photographs is a work in progress; the work will only be complete when each of the 25 European countries affected, are represented.
